Advent Candle Christmas Countdown Calendar

Advent Candle Christmas Countdown Calendar

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x1 portrait orientation pdf to make an ‘Advent Candle Countdown Calendar’ to count down the December days from the 1st to the 24th. What’s it for? This countdown has been designed to be used for by an individual/group or class to countdown the days to Christmas together. It has been designed to be made by or with an adult - an adult leading the way with what the steps are and a child/learner helping with these as they are able. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students with additional learning needs. An older, able, pupil may be able to make this ‘with’ or ‘for’ a younger learner in a paired activity, working together. Resource Details Everything needed for the finished Advent Candle Countdown Calendar is included on the pdf. There are six main instructions and additional, detailed, information positioned next to the relevant parts to make what to do clearer. The main task is to cut along the red dotted lines to cut the candle shape out and separate the ‘flaps’ which will fold over the image (for each day) to hide it. Numbers are provided to stick onto these flaps (in order from the base of the candle to the top), or these numbers can be written by hand instead - whatever is preferred/easiest. Learners will need a pencil (to write their name), a pair of scissors, a glue stick and a small ball of Blue Tac (the size of a small marble) - this piece of Blue Tac will then be made into x24 teeny tiny balls which are used to secure the flaps closed until it is the date to be opened. Suggestions This pdf will need to be printed onto white card or it won’t be strong enough to stand up by itself. Double sided sticky tape might be a better alternative to secure the candle shape together (instead of using the glue stick). Glue/double-sided sticky tape is to be applied to the single purple strip, positioned vertically on the right hand side of the pdf. Read the six steps carefully before beginning to help make the process as easy as possible. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant. Thank you! Reading Common words Number names 1 - 20

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x4 sheets, all portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to give learners an opportunity to look more closely at a set of the first 100/200 high frequency words and practise seeing these words on sight while matching these words with images. This set focuses on all ‘number names’ from ‘one’ to ‘twenty’ - all words included have a matching image (of the numeral and correct number of objects). This is a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds (and words/numbers) for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds/words. This resource is also suitable for older learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? An adult can pre-cut along dotted lines provided and the set of x20 words (and images) can be shuffled and placed face-up on the carpet/a table top for learners to look at carefully and try to match. Resource Details… These words are all from the list of ‘common words’ to read and spell. Some are also from the from the first 100/200 high frequency word list. It is possible to ‘sound out’ ‘most’ of these words, however some are ‘tricky’. Words to sound out can be identified by a ‘white tick’, tricky words can be identified by a white ‘cross’. In the ‘word box’ at the top-right there is a coloured ‘triangle’. The colour indicates which phonics phase this word fits in with. Pink triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 2’, purple triangles indicate that the words are from 'phase 3’, turquoise triangles indicate that the words are from 'phase 5’ and grey triangles indicate that the words are from phase 6+. The ‘key’ at the top of each sheet also makes this colour coded system clear. Red letters indicate the tricky/irregular letters/sounds. Where individual letters are underlined - this indicates that together these (underlined) letters have one sound. Tricky words are underlined as one word instead. Each page is numbered e.g. ‘1 of 4’ - find page numbers on the lower right side of each sheet. The blue box outline colour indicates that these words are all part of the ‘number names’ set. 1 - 20 Number Matching Set - Vehicles (Square cards)

(0)
What’s included? This download includes seven A4, portrait pdf sheets which make a number matching set featuring x40 cards (Various vehicles to count and numerals/word number names from 1 to 20 to match). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource is to practise counting up to 20 items (vehicles) and match the total number with the correct numeral/number name word label. How to use this resource This matching activity set has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring. Learners then look at each image card and count the number of vehicles before matching the picture to the numeral/number name card to complete the set. Once the set is matched into pairs learners can order the numeral and picture cards together to create a complete set from 1 to 20 or backwards depending on the focus. Once complete the cards can be threaded back together using the hole (top left of each card). The squares are designed to be joined together using a plastic clip/string or ribbon (using sticky Velcro would assist with easy opening). Once attached the numeral cards (like number fans) can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. The cards could also be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to help count and order numbers and/or cross-check the correct orientation of individual numbers if unsure when writing. Games This ‘number match’ set could also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during counting rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the vehicle cards or all the numeral cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up. Suggestion Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) as seen on the main resource image are ideal for this resource and can be purchased online easily. Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small amount of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource. What’s included? This download includes x7 A4, portrait pdf 2D shape sheets featuring x36 matching cards. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? How to use this resource This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring. Learners then look at each 2D shape image and (if they are able) name this. Learners can also count the number of sides of each shape and match the picture to the name label to complete the set. Once the set is matched into pairs (images and labels together) learners can then order the pairs from the least number of sides to the most (or vice versa!) 2D shapes included are oval, ellipse, semi circle, circle, triangle, equilateral triangle, right-angled triangle, square, rectangle, trapezium, parallelogram, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon. This 2D shape matching set could also be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to help remember the number of sides and/or cross-check the name/spelling of individual shapes if unsure when writing these down. This ‘shape match’ set could also be used for a variety of ways, both inside and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the 2D shape pictures cards or all the name label cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up. Who’s it for? This ‘hours on a clock’ resource has been designed for early years and pupils in years one and two. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. Resource layout The numbers on the clock are size 50 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font and the text on the clock ‘hands’ is the same font, size 18. Recommendations This PDF have been designed to print and use as practical cut/stick resource. It could be laminated (and the numbers cut out with velcro style dots on the back and clock face) to enable reuse and improve durability. What’s included? This download includes two A4, landscape pdf sheets to practise ‘ordering numbers to 20’. Learners are to cut out along straight lines and then arrange and stick the clothes onto the washing lines. An adult could pre-cut the numbers for those learners who struggle with using scissors/find cutting frustrating/demotivating. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Dotted guide lines show where to cut and two washing lines are provided to fit all the clothes on (it might be a squeeze but they should all fit!) A colour and black and white version of the same resource included. There is a clear space under the lower washing line for each learner to write their name. 2D shapes for window display

2D shapes for window display

(0)
What’s included? This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring x23 2D Shapes with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane 2D shapes for (window) display. What’s it for? These 2D shapes have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the shapes look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the colour ‘falls’ depends on the position of the shape in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole set of 2D shapes together as a focus to encourage learners to recognise and name each 2D shape and become familiar with recognising and naming them as well as lots of exposure and so time to count the number of sides/corners and think about the properties of each e.g. which have straight/curved sides (or both!). The 2D shapes can of course be repositioned and displayed as you choose. I have included a ‘2D shapes’ label to be displayed with the set of shapes. This resource would also support work on shadows and light/dark. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through these shapes when the sun comes out! Resource Details The shapes all have a name label which is in the font ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 45. There are x5 pages. The first page includes clear instructions and the remaining pages include the set of shapes and 2D Shapes word label. Suggestions I recommend printing and making these letters out of white card - paper would be too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive on Amazon(!) I recommend also backing every 2D shape in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time and to do this x10 sheets of A4 white card will be needed (instead of x5 sheets). One more AND one less fruit (to 10)

What’s included? This download includes two A4, portrait sheets to practise counting up to x10 items (fruit), writing the total number and recording ’one more’ OR ‘one less’ for each. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for children in the early years, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The sheet is organised into five different coloured (fruit) groups, each group has less than 10 objects (fruit) in total. Learners count each group in turn, write the total amount of fruit and then add (either mentally or by ‘drawing’ one more fruit) and writing the number - which is ‘one more’ OR ‘one less’. There is a clear space to record the number date at the top right of the sheet and for learners to write their name (lower left). 2D Shapes Investigation Workbook

(0)
What’s included? This download includes five A4, portrait pdf sheets to investigate ‘2D shapes and their properties’, presented as a ‘workbook’ for learners to complete through investigation. A sixth sheet has also been included as a set of tangible 2D shapes for learners to hold and investigate while completing this investigation. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children (to complete with support/as a group), pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The six 2D shapes investigated in this workbook are a circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. Page 1 is the ‘workbook’ cover and includes a clear space for learners to write their name. There is related 2D shape information included on the cover for learners to read as well as a visual list of what learners will need to complete the workbook - to encourage autonomy. Pages 2 and 3 include six sets of questions (one set for each shape) all in the same layout. Learners are to complete this information so that the information becomes a set of clear, (accurate!) facts about each shape. Where learners do not know the information (to complete these questions) they can investigate each shape using the clear picture provided and count e.g. the number of sides of each shape and ‘circle’ the corners/vertices to complete the information. Additionally I have included a set of these 2D shapes to print out (onto card) and hold and use during this investigation. To complete these pages there are ‘2D shape names’ to cut out on page 4 (along the right hand side) which learners should be made aware of (dotted lines indicate where to cut). An adult could pre-cut these x6 shape names for those learners who struggle with using scissors/find cutting frustrating/demotivating. Pages 4 and 5 include the same information (as pages 1 and 2) completed in the same layout for learners to check their findings. There are also some ‘quick match’ questions at the very end of page 5 to recap what they have learnt. Page 6 a seperate set of these 2D shapes to print out onto card and (ideally) laminate to hold and use while completing this investigation.
